Mission

The Maryland Plant Atlas endeavors to provide authoritative distribution maps for all the native and naturalized plants of Maryland based on the best available data; to provide accurate and up-to-date information on the flora to the public; and to promote conservation and research by increasing awareness and appreciation for wild plants.

Scope

We have included every species of vascular plant, bryophyte, and algae that is native or naturalized in Maryland. The Maryland Plant Atlas and Maryland Biodiversity Project stay in careful sync with the invaluable Wesley Knapp and Robert Naczi checklist Vascular Plants of Maryland (2021). Changes to the Checklist since publication are compiled here.

Partners

The Maryland Plant Atlas Working Group is a partnership between Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), University of Maryland's Norton-Brown Herbarium (NBH), and Maryland Biodiversity Project (MBP).
